Reloved Living at Las Vegas World Market Center

I recently went to the Las Vegas World Market center to set up a booth at the home/gift show for my business, Reloved Living.  My sister and business partner, Emily and I drove there and spent two days unloading and setting up our booth.

I found all the display items at yard sales or on craigslist.  I already had the old, metal folding chairs. I mixed up a custom Chalk Paint® color using Emperor's Silk, Burgandy, and Pure White to make a bright pink and then painted the legs with gold Gilder's Paste Wax.

This desk was found curbside with a free sign hanging on it.  With the twenty knobs, I thought it would make a great display piece for our decorative knobs.

I painted the desk with Pure White Chalk Paint® and used gold Gilders Paste and a stencil to add the chevron stripe on top.

Reloved Living also sells these fabulous, faux animal heads that we displayed inside vintage frames on the wall.  I painted each frame a different Chalk Paint® color and left some gold.  We had a couple mishaps with the shippers and then the movers that were helping us unload the animal heads.  We ended up with some broken antlers after the first day of set up.  I bought some super glue and spackle and glued, patched, and painted in the hotel that night.  They looked as good as new by morning!

We love the faux giraffe head!

I found another piece to display the knobs at a yard sale.  It is a vintage '90's cd holder, but the fifteen drawers makes it a perfect piece for displaying our knobs.

I painted the cd organizer with Pure White Chalk Paint®.  I found this vibrant, modern wrapping paper on Eva & Anne's Etsy Shop and used Annie Sloan's decoupage to glue and seal it onto the drawers.

I love the mixed colors and geometric patterns on the drawers - it makes our knobs really stand out!

The show organizers chose some of our items for their showcase display

I found the antique screens on Craigslist and thought they would make excellent booth dividers. The man I bought them from said his grandparents bought them a long time ago while traveling in Morocco and brought them back.  My friend and fellow blogger, Darrielle, from D.D.'s Cottage kindly helped me spray them with Pure White Chalk Paint®.  I think they would have been very difficult to paint by hand and I was grateful to have a friend with a paint sprayer willing to help me out!

All the preparation paid off! The booth came together and turned out great. All the bright colors mixed with Pure White drew people's attention and made Reloved Living's booth stand out.

Pink Dream Bedroom

This little girl's dream bedroom was created with mostly vintage furniture that the family chose to salvage, rather than buying new.  This dark stained desk and mirror, were brightened up with a couple coats of Pure White Chalk Paint®.  The brass hardware was changed from gold to silver with gilding wax.

You can see the other sister's purple dream bedroom, the family's chesterfield sofa painted with Chalk Paint®, and their dining room, also transformed with Chalk Paint®.

The vintage nightstands had lost their charm, but were still functional with three nice size drawers for extra storage.

Nancy and I painted the pair of night stands with Coco Chalk Paint® and silver gilding wax for the handles.  Coco is a pretty complement with the pink bedding.

We also painted this tallboy dresser with Coco Chalk Paint.

After Nancy and I finished painting all the pieces of furniture, her mother put it all together to create her elegant pink and Coco dream bedroom!

Chalk Paint® on Fabric Chairs

One of my clients needed immediate help making her two vintage chairs presentable for houseguests coming to stay with her in a week.  She did not want the expense of reupholstering the chairs and she did not have the time to get it done before the houseguests arrived.

I suggested she try painting the fabric on the chairs with Chalk Paint®, so she hired me to come out and give it a try!

She found these solid, well-built chairs at an antique shop. She loved the size and shape, but had always planned on replacing the fabric, which was a heavily stained, pale yellow linen.

I used Old White on thechair fabric and Pure White on the legs. The Chalk Paint® covered the fabric, making the chairs look brand new!

You can even see the texture of the linen through the paint.

It was a time consuming process, but definitely worth it in the end.  I painted the first coat with Old Ochre Chalk Paint®, but after I got it on the chairs, my client decided she wanted the fabric to be lighter, so I painted the next two coats of paint with Old White. I applied a total of three coats of Chalk Paint® sanding the entire chair with 220 grit sandpaper, on a sanding block, between each coat.  I used a damp cloth to remove all the dust from sanding between coats.  The sanding made the fabric feel smooth and soft and removed any crusty areas. After the third coat of paint dried, I applied a coat of Annie Sloan clear wax to seal and protect the fabric.

It does not look like the fabric is painted and it feels soft and durable.

Pure White Chalk Paint® Kitchen Cabinets

One of our customers at Loot hired Nancy and I to paint the kitchen cabinets of her beach house.  She just purchased this home and I wish I could show you pictures of how different it looked before she started her remodel. Everything in the house was in a shade of brown when she bought it. First, She replaced the floor with this lovely, beachy hardwood.  Then, she hired us to transform her brownish-orange kitchen cabinets.

I forgot to take pictures before the cabinet doors were removed, but at least I remembered to take a few shots before we actually started painting.

The finish on the cabinets before was outdated and did not look right with the pretty, light countertops and bright blue backsplash.  After a little Chalk Paint®, they look like they were made to go together.

The Pure White Chalk Paint® on the cabinets really tied the look together.

Here is the Chalk Paint® in action: no need to prime, sand, or strip the existing finish.  Just paint away!

In order to achieve a really smooth finish, I thinned the top coat with a bit of water by dipping my brush in a cup of water periodically to keep it moist as I painted.

The kitchen is modern and sophisticated now and Chalk Paint® helped achieve the look.  This demonstrates that Chalk Paint® is valuable for creating many different types of finishes.  It looks beautiful and authentic on antique pieces and creates an equally stunning finish on modern, clean lines, like these kitchen cabinets. The coverage, ease of use, and versatility of Chalk Paint® are some of the reasons why I love using this paint so much.

Of course, the predictably perfect finish created with Chalk Paint® is the main reason it is my favorite decorative paint.

Chalk Paint® sticks to everything and looks the same, no matter what is beneath it.  The bar is a perfect example of this. Once covered in Chalk Paint®, the cabinets match the, newly installed, back paneling, making it look like it was always meant to be that way.

I love her industrial style bar stools against the bright Pure White.

We opted to use Annie Sloan's matte lacquer rather than the wax on these cabinets.  It is designed for use on floor, so it is really going to hold up to wear and tear on the cabinets.

What a brilliant kitchen now!

She also hired us to paint her front door and French doors throughout her home.

The Pure White Chalk Paint on the doors gives this sophisticated beach house a fresher, more unified look.

Louvered Medicine Cabinets

While shopping at the local Goodwill, I spotted two matching medicine cabinets with shutter doors.  They were in the furniture department shoved underneath a desk and I do not know how I managed to see them in their hiding spot.  They must have been whispering for me to take them home with me.

These two medicine cabinets are great for extra storage in a bathroom.  The box is made of laminated wood, but the louvered doors are real wood.

I started by painting both medicine cabinets with Pure White Chalk Paint®.  I love that Chalk Paint® sticks so well to both laminate and wood, giving pieces like this a more unified look.

After the Pure White dried, I used a dry brush to casually swipe Provence Chalk Paint® over the Pure White, leaving plenty of the white showing through.  I finished this piece by distressing the shutter door to make the paint look weathered.  The ceramic sea star knob adds the finishing touch to this now beachy cabinet.

I decided to do something different on the second cabinet.  I still painted the whole thing Pure White, but then I dry brushed French Linen over it and added a ceramic, clock knob.
