Mid-Week Design Inspiration: Settees

I love settees and I have been looking for inspiration for a settee that my friend gave me. I brought the settee down to Southern California, so my dad can fix the broken wooden parts in his wood shop. Until Papa Rubbish finishes the settee repair, I will just daydream about what my settee will look like one day.

flckr.com

I love the pale blue, petite settee set as the spotlight in this gorgeous room.  I cannot tell from this picture, but it looks like fuzzy, wool fabric.

desiretoinspire.net

This black settee is dramatic and I like the idea of using black because it would wear really well.

dominomag.com

I love the contrast of this settee with the dark arms and pale linen.  I also adore the striped rug the settee is sitting upon.

This large, white settee is lovely too and has a rustic charm.

Cane-backing is beautiful on a settee too.

Of course, velvet is always a glamorous, plush choice for upholstery and this blue velvet is stunning.  I like the idea of having a settee in an entry hall, that is, if you have an entry hall big enough to hold one.

http://www.decorpad.com

I like the elegance of this settee with softly-colored, wide stripes.

I like the monochromatic look of this one too with coco linen and natural frame.

I found three striped settees and after seeing these,  I am really leaning toward upholstering my settee in stripes.

http://harvestfurniture.blogspot.com/

This black and white striped settee with the natural wood frame might be my favorite of all.  It is such a classic style settee with an unexpected fabric.

The blue and white stripe against the gold frame is sharp and stylish too.

I love the way the French style of this settee is accentuated with this simple and charming, ticking striped fabric.

Mid-Week Design Inspiration: French Bedrooms

Hi, everyone, I'm Susi and I write as a guest blogger for Design Shuffle, a wonderful platform for designers and design lovers from around the world to share their work and find inspiration. Speaking of inspiration, I'm thrilled to write the Mid-Week Design Inspiration post for Amanda this week. This week's post is all about French bedrooms. Romantic and oh so stylish, French bedrooms are beautiful interior design inspiration for creating a gorgeous bedroom of our own. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Bedroom Designs

This French bedroom feels like it is straight out of Dangerous Liasons or a fairytale. Beautiful architecture surrounds a bed piled with dusty pastels. Beautiful.

Bedroom Designs

Soft lighting and a canopy gives a romantic, feminine feeling to this bedroom. Love that the pattern is carried from walls to canopy to linens. Tres chic!

Bedroom Designs

Soft French grey is a lovely color for a bedroom. Paired with gold from giltwood furniture or a gilt mirror and pale pastels, grey can create a feminine room.

Bedroom Designs

This Provencal inspired bedroom is centered by a beautiful canopy bed draped in French linens. The bed is from Ikea. Stunned? So were we! Amazing what some paint and creativity can do!

Bedroom Designs

Not all French bedroom designs must be a riot of pattern. This French bedroom is done in a lovely French grey that calm and soothing. Pretty furniture has fantastic details.

Bedroom Designs

Toile is quintessentially French and a perfect fabric for the bedroom. Love the red and white toile on this canopy bed for its bright pattern.

Bedroom Designs

This gorgeous emerald room (photographed by Didier Delmas) is a dark, dramatic French bedroom. What beautiful decorating ideas are found in this sumptuous space! Love the emerald and plum palette.

Bedroom Designs

At first glance, this looks like a settee but is in fact a bed. How whimsical! Love all the beautiful pattern on the bed and wall. Antique oil paintings add a very French feel to the room. Images [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 ]

Spooktacular October Sale at Loot Vintage Flea Market

At the last minute Nancy and I headed to the dollar store to make the shop look spooky for our October flea market.

I love the white pumpkin that Nancy painted with a black crow.

I made a glittered, mini, boo banner for Nancy's fancy clown.

One of our customers rolled up in this beautiful, restored automobile.  It looks so good in front of our vintage shop and I had to get a picture of Nancy posing next to it.

This is what the back of the shop (our workshop) looked like a few days prior to the sale.  Nancy and I make a huge mess while we are working.  Nancy says that this is what happens with creative people.  I think that it is partly because we are both so busy and never have time to clean up.

We pulled the back room together just in time for the sale and made it look presentable.  Our customers never suspected the chaos that took place here before the sale.

Nancy hollowed out this giant pumpkin and filled it with a beautiful, fall flower arrangement.

We had new, talented vendors join us in the garden with all of their lovely vintage and repurposed items.

Nancy found this great wooden rosary and tall cloche at a pre-sale we attended at her friend's barn on Friday.

During our September sale, a man stopped by the shop and asked if we wanted to buy his trunk.  We love the weathered wood and the rusty hardware, so we took it.  It is now for sale at Loot and I think it will be the perfect coffee table.

I made some velvet pumpkins for the holidays and sold several of them during the sale.  I have one left in my etsy shop. I went across the street from my house to my friend's farm and she helped me dig through all of her butternut squash vines to find the left over stems.  I love them because they still have the delicate, little tendrils attached.

I also made some linen pumpkins with pretty ribbons and old copper wire.  The stem is from a dried sunflower stalk, also from Casalegno Family Farm.  This linen pumpkin is for sale in my etsy shop.

Mid-Week Design Inspiration: Classic Garden Urns

www.houzz.com
I love the classic, black urns flanking the front door on this porch.  Isn't that a pretty paint color on the door too?

www.trouvais.com
These chippy, antique urns holding boxwoods are oh-so-lovely.

www.elledecor.com
Urns do not have to stay in the garden.  This pair of urns looks right at home in this beautiful dining room.  I love how they brought other elements of the outdoors into the room too, like the french bistro chairs and the branch chandelier.

This giant, rusty urn, holding green moss, adds to the casual elegance and natural theme of this striking living room.

www.inthefunlane.com
I love the simplicity of this vignette with the urn as the focal point atop the antique dresser.  The wire basket light fixtures are wonderful too.

Mid-Week Design Inspiration: Grain Sack Upholstery Love

www.fullbloomcottage.blogspot.com
I love the sense of rustic elegance that grain sacks invoke.  The beautiful texture, timeless simplicity, and durable construction make them appealing fabric for upholstery.

This classic, blue-striped, grain sack complements the worn, gray finish and beautiful lines of this French country chair.

This gorgeous settee is from my favorite boutique in Santa Cruz, Saffron and Genevieve.  Scarlett, the owner, has amazing taste and her shop is full of beautiful antiques and interesting, unique items.  Click on the link above to check out her inspiring shop and if you are ever in the the area, you have to stop by in person.

This room, featuring a chair upholstered in an antique grain sack, is so warm and inviting.

I really like the antique grain sacks with faded, stenciled numbers and letters too.

Look at the slubby texture of the homespun, linen, grain sack used to upholster this simple side chair.

Something about the authentic quality of the old, grain sack fabric, makes me feel at home.

Charcoal Art and Handmade Books

My cousin, Brittany Wood, is an amazingly talented artist and photographer and she just opened her first Etsy shop.  She freehand draws these beautiful, charcoal drawings.

Aren't these fashionistas gorgeous? They would look fabulous with black frames to add a little wall candy to any space!  She also does custom, personalized charcoal drawings from photographs.

Brittany makes books completely by hand too.  This one is my favorite with the leather binding and the beautiful Japanese paper.

This damask print book with whales is adorable too.

Check out Brittany's Etsy shop by clicking here.

Mid-Week Design Inspiration: A Chandelier for Every Room

Chandeliers add so much enchanting warmth and sparkle, so why not put them in every room of the house?

I love this bedroom with the chandelier hanging from the open-beamed ceiling. This room looks a lot like my current living room, minus the natural colored wood beams.  I am working on a large chandelier to hang in my living room and can't wait to show you the finished result!

Country Home

They look lovely in a sun room too, with all the natural light shining through the crystals.  Don't you love the shape of this vintage, crystal chandelier?

Country Living

Look at the charm this chandelier adds to the cottage kitchen below.  (I know this post is about chandeliers, but one of the reasons I chose this photo is because I am in love with the antique, marble-topped table on caster wheels).

Country Living

You must have a splendid chandelier in the dining room too!  It is, after all, the traditional place for one.

Cote de Texas

Why not dress up the bathroom with one too?  A chandelier adds so much glamour and sophistication to a bathroom... and wouldn't it be nice to take a relaxing bath underneath a sparkling chandelier?

I wish I had a library, complete with a sliding ladder and large chandelier dripping in crystals!
Cote de Texas

I really created this post to motivate myself to finish three chandeliers that are on the floor in the corner of my living room.  I love picking up new projects, but I do not always finish old projects, before adding new ones to the pile, and therein lies the problem.  One of my new year's resolutions is to finish all the projects I have laying around the house before I go to any more yard sales!

I wish you all a happy new year filled with inspiration and motivation to tackle all of your resolutions!
