Vintage Sheet Music Wreaths

I found a whole book of vintage, Beethoven, sheet music at my local thrift shop for $1!  I pulled it out just in time for Christmas decorating and created a couple sheet music, paper wreaths.

I love the natural, aged patina of this old sheet music. 

Sheet music wreaths are such an inexpensive way to dress up your holiday decor and you can add your own decorative touch to each one.  I used some pretty, cream ribbon to attacha bow to the top of this one.  The tiny star in the center is from a pack of wooden stars I bought at the craft store.  I stamped it with a fancy script stamp and then put glitter on the edges. 

I started out by using white glue, but found that it was much easier and faster to just use a hot melt glue gun for the whole thing.

Here is another version of the sheet music wreath.  I attached a wide, burlap ribbon as a wreath hanger for this one.

I attached two wooden stars to the center using the hotmelt glue gun. I covered the larger star with silver glitter and stamped the smaller star with the fancy script stamp.

These sheet music wreaths were fast, simple and fun to make! They have the added bonus of lasting year after year.  I already sold both of these wreaths at Loot, so I need to find time to make a few more.

Duck Egg Blue Nightstand

I love the Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint and I finally finished painting my nightstand with it.

I picked up this nightstand at my local thrift shop for $8.  It is a really heavy piece of furniture for being so small.  It was in pretty rough shape when I found it, but aren't the legs cute?  I patched all the thin cracks with wood filler.  I also patched the drawer pull holes with wood filler because I wanted to put single knobs in the center of the drawers.

This is how the nightstand looked all dressed up, with two coats of Duck Egg Blue, accessorized with pretty, crystal knobs.  I found these crystal knobs at a yard sale and got a whole box of them for only $5!  The woman I bought them from ordered them for her whole kitchen and then decided she did not really like them. 

After distressing the edges, I applied a coat of clear wax with my wax brush.  I am really loving the Duck Egg Blue color and I like how the wax seemed to make the color more subdued.

The inside of the drawers were in pretty bad shape, so I got out my Mod Podge and lined them with some vintage sheet music.

Crowns, Jewels and Sheet Music

I bought more of these tall candles from the grocery store that I decorated for Christmas. I could not pass up this $1.50 candle sale! This time I copied my vintage sheet music onto cardstock and then printed crown clipart, from The Graphics Fairy, over the music. I used modge podge to wrap the paper around the candles and then added glitter paint to accent the crown details.

I used a copy of this vintage print for another candle. I altered it by adding a mini crown and lettering.

The last two candles were the ones I had already covered in brown, vintage sheet music for Christmas. I took off the Christmas greens and added burlap and vintage, pearl earrings to dress them up.

Window Wreaths and Christmas Candles

I finished my last Christmas project this morning - fresh wreaths for my living room windows (they smell sooo good)! I picked up a couple of wreath forms for 30 cents at a thrift shop. I simply wrapped them in fresh greens and cut a strip of red and white toile fabric for the wreath hanger. I love that wreaths are so simple, yet add so much festive charm.

Yesterday, I found these slender jar candles at the grocery store for $1.50 each! I wrapped them in my brownish, vintage sheet music and hung vintage crystals from an old chandelier.  To finish them, I added fresh greens with berries.

Songbirds

I was inspired by Renee at Shabby, Chic & Charming wth her adorable burlap, bird Christmas ornaments. You should check out her blog and see all of her beautiful projects.

I created my own bird ornaments using a small piece of cardboard, that came with a lamp kit, and more vintage sheet music.

Here is the piece of cardboard that the birds started as. I am not sure why I am including this photo...maybe just to show that even a piece of rubbish like this can become something beautiful with a little imagination!

I drew the bird shapes on the cardboard and then cut them out and used Modge Podge to decoupage the sheet music to the front and back of the cardboard. I attached a delicate gold thread and shredded the wings and tail feathers.

My sweet sister, Emily, gave me these ceramic, bird ornaments a few months ago. My whole family loves garage sales and they are always finding things for me that they think I can fix up. Well, I finally transformed these little birdies in time for Christmas.

I painted them a creamy white and sprinkled them with white and gold glitter.

I know I have been doing a lot of little Christmas decoration posts, but that is what I have been busily working on. I promise to have more big projects coming up! I am going to be starting my first upholstery attempt with two antique chairs over the Thanksgiving holiday. Wish me luck!

Vintage Sheet Music Ornament

I love all this vintage sheet music I found at a yard sale last weekend. I have made my first project with it - a triple star, dangly ornament. I found this ordinary ornament at a yard sale for 50 cents and I transformed it with a little sheet music and glitter. I traced the stars onto the sheet music and then cut them out and used Modge Podge to adhere it to the stars. After it dried, I painted Modge Podge on the edges of the stars and sprinkled them with gold glitter.

As I was digging through the sheet music, I found this old, vintage print of Mary holding baby Jesus. Isn't it beautiful? I love the subdued colors of the print with their pink, rosy cheeks. I just happened to have a vintage frame laying around that fit it perfectly. I want to keep the original print, but I made a copy to sell in my space at Blessings Boutique for Christmas.
