Reloved Living at Las Vegas World Market Center

I recently went to the Las Vegas World Market center to set up a booth at the home/gift show for my business, Reloved Living.  My sister and business partner, Emily and I drove there and spent two days unloading and setting up our booth.  

I found all the display items at yard sales or on craigslist.  I already had the old, metal folding chairs. I mixed up a custom Chalk Paint® color using Emperor's Silk, Burgandy, and Pure White to make a bright pink and then painted the legs with gold Gilder's Paste Wax.  

This desk was found curbside with a free sign hanging on it.  With the twenty knobs, I thought it would make a great display piece for our decorative knobs.

I painted the desk with Pure White Chalk Paint® and used gold Gilders Paste and a stencil to add the chevron stripe on top.

Reloved Living also sells these fabulous, faux animal heads that we displayed inside vintage frames on the wall.  I painted each frame a different Chalk Paint® color and left some gold.  We had a couple mishaps with the shippers and then the movers that were helping us unload the animal heads.  We ended up with some broken antlers after the first day of set up.  I bought some super glue and spackle and glued, patched, and painted in the hotel that night.  They looked as good as new by morning!

I found another piece to display the knobs at a yard sale.  It is a vintage '90's cd holder, but the fifteen drawers makes it a perfect piece for displaying our knobs.

I painted the cd organizer with Pure White Chalk Paint®.  I found this vibrant, modern wrapping paper on Eva & Anne's Etsy Shop and used Annie Sloan's decoupage to glue and seal it onto the drawers.

I love the mixed colors and geometric patterns on the drawers - it makes our knobs really stand out!

I found the antique screens on Craigslist and thought they would make excellent booth dividers. The man I bought them from said his grandparents bought them a long time ago while traveling in Morocco and brought them back.  My friend and fellow blogger, Darrielle, from D.D.'s Cottage kindly helped me spray them with Pure White Chalk Paint®.  I think they would have been very difficult to paint by hand and I was grateful to have a friend with a paint sprayer willing to help me out!

All the preparation paid off! The booth came together and turned out great. All the bright colors mixed with Pure White drew people's attention and made Reloved Living's booth stand out.

Louvered Door Dresser

My sister, Emily,  moved to the charming town of Pacific Grove, which if you remember,  is the place I got my start in the furniture-selling business at Blessings Boutique.  It is a picturesque, seaside town filled with shops and victorians overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Monterey Bay.  I drive around the bay weekly to see my sister and nephews.  I cannot resist sharing this adorable picture my sister took of me holding her youngest, Ezra, at the beach.  

We have a bit of a weekly ritual while I am visiting PG.  First, we meet at Happy Girl Kitchen for an organic coffee or refreshing kombucha. Then, while Emily's older boys are still in school, we like to go to sushi at the freshest and bestest of sushi restaurants around: Crystal Fish.  Next we hit the plethora of thrift shops in the area.  We finish up the day by picking the nephews up from school, going to the beach, and getting delicious organic ice cream from Kai Lee Creamery.  

I found this vintage dresser at one of the thrift shops in Pacific Grove.  I was drawn to the lovely, louvered doors.

I painted the dresser with one coat of Old Ochre Chalk Paint®.

Little birdies!

I sanded the dresser heavily, especially the louvered doors, to make them look like old shutters. Chalk Paint® distesses so nicely with 220 grit sandpaper and it was easy to get to the wood because I only used one coat of paint.

Old White Bedroom Set with Keyhole Knobs

After finishing this bedroom set in Old White Chalk Paint® , I see why it is our number one selling color at Loot.

One of our customers came in Loot and asked me if I would be interested in looking at her mother's furniture.  This set was a part of what I bought from her mother's estate.  The original finish was old and well-worn.  We decided to make it look fresh and beachy by painting it with two coats of Old White Chalk Paint®  and using a scrubby sponge to distress the edges.

After distressing the piece, we finished with a clear wax.

 The bedroom set included this darling, petite night stand as well.

We replaced all the hardware with vintage style, key-hole knobs in aqua.  The knobs have a distressed look, which pairs nicely with the rubbed-back white on the dresser.

Old White Chalk Paint®  has a beautiful warmth to it, while still looking like a true white.

The third piece in this bedroom set is a vanity with little caster wheels.

We painted the vanity with Old White Chalk Paint®  as well.

 We reupholstered the chair with a vibrant floral fabric.

We replaced the hardware on the vanity with green, vintage-style, keyhole knobs.

The distressed, metal knobs coordinate well with the worn, white paint finish.

Primer Red Chalk Paint® Kitchen Cabinets

We were recently hired to paint some outdated, blonde wood cabinets.  The homeowners replaced their countertops with granite and decided to have their cabinets painted, rather than replaced with new.

The kitchen looked drab before and needed to be refreshed.  

Our clients chose Primer Red Chalk Paint® for the cabinets, which added a vibrant warmth to the, once dull kitchen.  We sealed the Chalk Paint® with a coat of Annie Sloan Clear Wax.

The homeowners decided to have us paint the wall adjoining the countertop because they could not find a backsplash they liked and they wanted to keep it simple. 

We painted the backsplash and the wall above the cabinets with a custom mix of half Chateau Grey and half Old White Chalk Paint®. The pretty, pale green is a nice contrast against the Primer Red and both colors enliven the kitchen.

This home is in the forest and, despite the skylights, tends to be a little dark.  To counteract this, I recommended that they find a window and have it made into a mirror for above the sink.  They found the perfect size, old window on ebay. Besides reflecting light into the space, the mirror also allows them to see the outside, through the reflection of the doors on the opposite wall, while they do the dishes.

French Provincial Hutch with Chicken Wire

I recently came across this french provincial hutch at a yard sale.  I can never pass on a frenchy piece, so this one came back to the shop with me for a little makeover.

The hutch was done in the typical cream and gold, which is a common look for the reproduction french provincial furniture made in  the 1970's.  I wanted to make the piece look more like an old world French antique than a tacky, vintage reproduction.

I gave it a softer look by painting it with Coco Chalk Paint®.  I wanted to create a weathered look to make the piece look authentically older. After applying two coats of Coco Chalk Paint®, I made a wash by mixing 50% Old Ochre Chalk Paint® with 50% water. I painted the wash on in sections and blended it over the Coco with a rag.

The Old Ochre muted the Coco and transformed it into a soft, warm, neutral grey. After the wash dried, I applied a coat of Annie Sloan Clear Wax, which made the color even more beautiful and added a smooth, creamy look. I coated the brass hardware with rustic brown spray paint to offer a nice contrast with the paint.

I painted the, previously gold, back and shelves with Old Ochre to brighten up the inside of the hutch.

The final part of the transformation was taking the glass out and replacing it with chicken wire that was also sprayed a rustic brown.   

The transformation from 1970's French provincial to antique French country is complete!

Pink Dream Bedroom

This little girl's dream bedroom was created with mostly vintage furniture that the family chose to salvage, rather than buying new.  This dark stained desk and mirror, were brightened up with a couple coats of Pure White Chalk Paint®.  The brass hardware was changed from gold to silver with gilding wax.

You can see the other sister's purple dream bedroom, the family's chesterfield sofa painted with Chalk Paint®, and their dining room, also transformed with Chalk Paint®.

The vintage nightstands had lost their charm, but were still functional with three nice size drawers for extra storage.

Nancy and I painted the pair of night stands with Coco Chalk Paint® and silver gilding wax for the handles.  Coco is a pretty complement with the pink bedding.

We also painted this tallboy dresser with Coco Chalk Paint.
