A client brought me a set of two, French Provincial, vintage dressers to refinish. You probably remember the headboard and nightstands that I painted for her too. I love the wavy fronts and delicate details of these two dressers.
When she brought me the dressers, none of the drawers would close. I hired Mr. Rubbish to plane all of the drawers. He used his planer to scrape a thin layer of wood off the top of the drawers until each one was a perfect fit.
The previous finish was a shiny enamel in a dirty beige with gold trim and brass hardware.
She wanted them to be painted cream, so I found a pretty shade of Behr ultra paint, called Cream Puff.
I painted all the tiny trim with Behr paint in Swiss Coffee. I mixed some Old White Chalk Paint 50/50 with water to make a white wash for the hardware. I used Annie Sloan clear wax to protect the paint and give the dressers a subtle sheen.
The second dresser is a matching tallboy.
I painted both of the dressers the same.

I think my client scored on finding these beauties for cheap on Craigslist. I am glad that I was able to give these old dressers a second life.

Just lovely. I have been looking for a set like this for my bedroom but around here they are not so easy to find. Wish me luck.

I am currently refinishing a set of French Provincial dressers myself. They have that same original shiny, yellow, laquered finish. Did you strip and sand your pieces before painting or did you paint right over the original finish?? I am in over my head with the detailed sanding!
