Gold French Chairs

I attended my first auction with Nancy and we both spotted these petite, antique chairs right when we walked in.  We knew that we had to have them, but we were sure that everyone else in the place wanted them too.  It turned out that only one other woman bid on them and we outbid her!

I cannot believe we own these amazing, French antique chairs!  Look at the darling swags the caning, and the gold leafing.

The seats are done in tufted satin. These must be the most adorable chairs I have ever seen!

If I had room at my house, I would keep them.  They are currently for sale at Loot and I hope they find a loving home!

Antique Piano Bench

I found this antique piano bench at a yard sale for only $3.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take before pictures.  When I found the bench, it had a dark reddish brown stain and a dirty needlepoint cushion cover.  One of the sides had a crack in it too.  My handy dad repaired the crack with a little wood glue and a long pony clamp.

I painted the bench with Old White Chalk Paint and applied clear and dark wax over the paint. When I started to paint the first coat of Chalk Paint, the original finish came off and was turning my brush pink.  I had to stop and use primer before finishing it with Chalk Paint. I left the little brass feet as they were.

The original foam on the seat was old and disintegrating so much that when I first lifted the seat up, the storage compartment was filled with orange powder. I bought new foam and reupholstered the seat with fancy, Paris script fabric.

This is one of my items that sold at Loot this past weekend!

New Pictures of Loot

We moved a few things around and a few things out since our sale last month.  This is what Loot looks like now.  Nancy sold her beautiful, rustic farm table last month, so she moved one of her antique buffets to the center.  She just refinished these two darling side tables with grayish-brown legs and ebony stained tops.

I still have the cane chairs, unfortunately.  I have had a few people contact me on who are interested in buying them on etsy, but so far the freight is just too expensive.  Do any of you have any recommendations for shipping larger pieces like this?  I actually want to list a lot more of our inventory online, but I need to figure out this freight shipping first.

Here is the back room now.  I love the way the lamp light illuminates the galvanized metal walls.  It looks very industrial chic.

I sold my country gray and old white dresser last month and see that big empty space on the wall?  I sold the country gray armoire on Saturday!

Remember this little duck egg blue beauty?  I sold her on Sunday!  I think I am really going to miss her having her around.

I had to take a picture of Nancy's tiny porcelain doll with the ripped arm.  Isn't she just too adorable?

We added a few new items to the back room too.

I found the cool, antique folding ruler at a little country store, while we were camping in Pennsylvania. I also brought back several blue mason jars with metal lids that I found at estate sales in Pittsburgh.

This month's sale went amazingly well for both of us.  We both sold a great mix of large and small items and now we need to focus on restoring and restocking for next month.

Time For Another Sale at Loot

We are getting ready for our monthly flea market at Loot this Saturday and Sunday.  We have lots of unique merchandise and new vendors setting up in the back.

Doesn't this stuff look amazing?  That is because it is from Atelier De Campagne!  For those of you out there that have not heard of Atelier De Campagne yet, you must check out their blog.  They do container sales in Corralitos, CA, shipped all the way from Europe and full of amazing antiques.  They dropped off some gorgeous patio furniture and accessories at Loot for our sale.  So, if you are anywhere near the Santa Cruz area, you won't want to miss this!

We will be open from 8-4 this Saturday and Sunday.

I hope to see some of you there!

Chalk Paint on Syroco Mirror

I got home last night from my trip to Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh is a wonderful city full of beautiful, old houses with amazing architecture.  I meant to spend a day taking pictures of houses to show you, but somehow I just ran out of time while I was there.  Nancy and I are having our monthly flea market at Loot this weekend and I am rushing to get everything done after being away for so long.  If any of you live close enough, I would love to have you stop by for our sale this Saturday and Sunday from 8-4.

I just finished this mirror and it will be for sale at Loot this weekend and then on to my etsy shop.

I love Syroco mirrors and it makes me happy when I stumble upon one at a yard sale.  This one started out gold with pretty scrolling details.

I used Country Gray Chalk Paint and it had no problems adhering to the Syroco frame.

After painting the frame, I distressed it all over, so the gold underneath would show through in places.  Then, I used a combination of clear wax and dark wax to give the frame more depth.

I love the muted color of the Country Gray combined with the elegant scrolling of the frame.

I am also pleased with the way Country Gray looks with dark wax over it.   I want to try this combination on a larger piece of furniture too.

My Bedroom

I know I have been MIA lately, but that is because I am in Pittsburgh visiting my brother and his family.  I have had a great time in this beautiful, lush and green part of the country.  I am heading home in a few days and, while I have had a wonderful time here, there is nothing like being back in my own bed.

I took these pictures of my room a few weeks ago. I live in a small cabin in the redwoods and besides the giant trees blocking a lot of sun, the room also happens to very small, making it doubly hard to photograph.  I captured as many angles as I could.

I found this vintage dresser on sale at an antique shop a few years ago.  I love the crystal drawer pulls and the little keyhole in the top.  I found the vintage, crystal lamp at an estate sale and recovered this lampshade.

The antlers, antique books and white pitcher all came from yards sales. I made the curtains with Michael Miller damask fabric and sewed pom pom trim to the edges.

Remember the cute, candle chandelier I fixed up earlier this summer?  I decided to hang it over my bed.

My favorite part of the room is the exposed wood ceiling and the large picture window overlooking the deck.  When we sleep with the window open, we are lulled to sleep by the sound of the creek below.

I made the dream banner with some left over burlap and my vintage brass stencil letters. And remember this antique foot board I fixed up a while ago?  It works great as my head board now.

I am looking forward to being back home and sleeping in my own bed in a couple of days!

Paris Gray Pedestal Side Table

I picked up this small, vintage side table at a yard sale a while ago.  It was an orange-brown color when I found it with a small hole drilled in the center. I really like the turned pedestal base on this petite table.

After filling the hole with wood filler, I gave it two coats of Paris Gray Chalk Paint.  Yes, I am still loving the Chalk Paint!  I already need to order more Old White and Country Gray.  I guess I will be using the Paris Gray and Duck Egg Blue a lot until I get enough money for a new order.

After painting the table, I realized that it looked too plain and it needed something to dress it up.  I found an image on the internet, printed it and resized it with my copier. I used tracing paper to trace the design on top of the table and then filled in the traced design with a white paint pen.  I really love using the tracing paper and the paint pens.  They make it so easy!

I used a stylus pen to trace the design through the tracing paper.  For those of you that don't know, I stylus pen is an instrument with a metal tip that has a tiny metal ball on the end.  I went to the art supply store to find one and the man working there told me they did not carry them and he snidely remarked,  "Who uses those anymore?!".  Well, I looked around and happened to find them down one of the aisles.  I saw him when I was checking out and I held it up and said, "look what I found"!  He was not amused, did not say a word, and walked away.  I was just trying to help him learn about his inventory. What is up with customer service these days!?

I lightly distressed the whole thing including the design and finished the table with a coat of clear wax.
